In this session, we will explore clever ways to read Feature Definitions with Item Types to automate pay items, and assist with the calculation of quantities. You will learn about using string operations in item type expressions and using the result to perform a lookup from an excel worksheet, or extract numbers from strings to perform calculations. You will also learn about setting up key properties between item types and excel, to enable lookup functions with multiple input combinations. Using these methods, you will be able access very large pay item libraries with relatively small feature and item type libraries, which are also intuitive to use. Previous experience with item types is recommended to get the most out of this session. Intermediate difficulty.

Developing 3D models of existing utilities, provides tremendous value to the roadway project, namely by providing efficiency in finding and managing conflicts during the project development process. But, how do you manage expectations related to the perceived accuracy of these 3D models, when there is often great uncertainty of the exact position? In this session, we will introduce the 3D modeling tools for utilities and conflict detection tools in OpenRoads. Then we will explore national standards ASCE-38 and ASCE-75 which define methods of managing expectations of accuracy and preserving the known positions of utilities for posterity.

This course teaches tools and techniques that can be used to lay out an intersection. It will focus on the Horizontal and Vertical Geometry tools to create 2D and 3D geometric elements. By registering for this workshop, you will be designing an intersection that includes turn lanes, median islands and turn lane islands. 2D horizontal geometry will be created using the Horizontal Geometry tools and Profiles and 3D elements will be created using the Vertical Geometry tools. The objective is to create a terrain model of the proposed pavement surface and analyze the proposed drainage contours. Beginner difficulty.

This presentation will cover the steps to create a digital twin model for a bridge where the beams are laid out parallel to a long chord in a curved alignment, or parallel to an extended tangent alignment. Hurricane Helene put the Carolinas through an unprecedented tragedy and caused massive damage to NCDOT-maintained assets. In this Keynote, see two dashboards that were created to track this damage and NCDOT’s related recovery efforts. One dashboard offers real-time insight for the public over road reopening, and the other presents high-level information for NCDOT staff and leadership on recovery progress with key construction and financial metrics.

The Resurfacing Grades module provides practical guidance and introduces essential tools to help you develop resurfacing grades effectively. While these tools are valuable, successful roadway design ultimately relies on your engineering judgment and experience. In this module, you will use two key tools: the Overlay Vertical Adjustment Tool to establish a Vertical Control Envelope, and the Best-Fit Profile Tool to create an initial profile that will require refinement. The intent of Interchange Module is to lean on the lessons learned from the previous modules and to introduce tools and methods that can be used when modeling or designing different elements of a typical interchange. The means and methods introduced in this model do not replace the guidelines set forth by AASHTO for the geometric design of the nation’s highways. Several specialized templates have been created and will be presented to provide design controls to set alignments and grades as well as validate designs. Infrastructure Cloud offers project reviewers many new capabilities to directly interrogate and review design data, and iModels can be used for a much wider set of daily tasks. Slope grading at bridge abutments can often be overlooked when developing 3D models for traiditonal plan deliverables. While it may not show up on cross section, this area is often a critcal junction of Roadway, Structures, and Drainage; the underdetailing of which can lead to errors in the field. The first half of this session will discuss collaboration benefits to modeling this area with the second half diving deeper into modeling techniques.
